Governor Northam Issues Stay at Home Order

RICHMOND – Governor Ralph Northam today issued a statewide Stay at Home order to protect the health and safety of Virginians and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The executive order takes effect immediately and will remain in place until June 10, 2020, unless amended or rescinded by a further executive order.
The order directs all Virginians to stay home except in extremely limited circumstances. Individuals may leave their residence for allowable travel, including to seek medical attention, work, care for family or household members, obtain goods and services like groceries, prescriptions, and others as outlined in Executive Order Fifty-Three, and engage in outdoor activity with strict social distancing requirements.
The executive order also directs all Virginia institutions of higher education to stop in-person classes and instruction. Private campgrounds must close for short-term stays, and beaches will be closed statewide except for fishing and exercise.  “We are in a public health crisis, and we need everyone to take this seriously and act responsibly,” said Governor Northam. “Our message to Virginians is clear: stay home. We know this virus spreads primarily through human-to-human contact, and that’s why it’s so important that people follow this order and practice social distancing. I’m deeply grateful to everyone for their cooperation during this unprecedented and difficult time.” The full text of Executive Order Fifty-Five can be found here.
Last week, Governor Northam issued Executive Order Fifty-Three closing certain non-essential businesses, prohibiting public gatherings of more than 10 people, and directing all K-12 schools to remain closed for the rest of the academic year. 1. I thank Virginia’s Governor for his manner of address he citizens of this State and for his updates and other information which he shares in a very professional manner.

  2. What is the difference of this and Lockdown????
TRULY that is what needs to be done, unfortunately people will not listen. Adults are worse than kids, after all they take their kids in Walmart etc. My husband went to do our shopping, I stayed home. He told me a family of six was in there, I said sure it took four kids to do the shopping.
    Lockdown is needed, my opinion.
Thank you for the hard job you do.

  3. He was confusing. He said a stay at home order, which is what we were already under. He said no groups over 10, but you can go fishing and golf courses are open, etc. That isnot going to get people to stay home that is saying go fishing and play golf! Trump said over 10 in a group will be a felony charge, but the governor said misdemeanor. It will need to be a lockdown order or people are not going to do it. I understand essential employees must go in, and I am one of these people but I dont want to get this because someone doesn’t want to listen. Please be clear.

  4. Healthcare and first responders she be getting crisis or hazardous pay. We are risking our lives and the lives of our families. Please dont ignore

  5. Why are do you think you should do more than what the federal government is doing. You sir are a power hungry idiot, who is by far the most wicked governor I have EVER seen. You are an embarrassment to the Commonwealth and this country. You should be impeached for not upholding the oath you took to uphold and abide by the Constitution of the United States.

    1. Just what has he done that is wicked? What reason for impeachment? Is it because you are Republican and he is a Democrat?? You sir are the only ‘robot’s man I have come across! So give me real answers, not he’s just evil!
