GRETNA – The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office officially announced that the manner in which two people died of gunshot wounds Wednesday in Gretna was a murder-suicide. Investigators are also calling the shooting a domestic related act of violence.
Patricia Harris Towler, 43, from the Tightsqueeze area of Chatham was found killed from a single gunshot wound in a car Wednesday at 11:40 a.m. in Gretna.
Dane Clarke Towler, 50, from the same community, was found dead Wednesday from a single gunshot wound that investigators believe was self-inflicted.
An infant was found in the vehicle, which had rolled across Route 40 and stopped when it bumped into a house across the street. The infant was not injured and was released to a family member after being examined, the Pittsylvania Sheriff’s Office says.
Investigators are still looking for more witnesses to the shooting. They are also interviewing friends and associates of both people to determine a motive.
