James Robert (Bobby) Hammock, Sr.

James Robert (Bobby) Hammock, Sr. age 85 of Rocky Mount passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019. Bobby was born January 17, 1934 in Charlottesville, VA but has lived most of his life in Franklin County. Preceding him in death were his parents, Leffie Hammock and Evelyn Norvelle Hammock and a brother, L.H. Hammock. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Smith Hammock; two sons, Rob Hammock and Todd Hammock; one precious granddaughter, Ava Hammock whom he loved dearly; he is also survived by Christine Brunell, Ava’s mother; a niece, Blanche Campbell and two nephews, Larry Hammock and Michael Hammock. Bobby was a charter member of the Franklin County Rescue Squad, and past Master of Snow Creek Masonic Lodge. He proudly served eight years in the U.S. Army as a Staff SGT. He retired from Dupont and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Bobby’s name to Franklin County Rescue Squad or Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2300 McNeil Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 with Pastor Joe Dillon, Chaplain Rick Poland and Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Entombment will follow in Mountain View Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
