Texting Believed to Be the Cause of Violent Crash on U.S. 220 in Henry Co.

HORSEPASTURE – Virginia State Police say a woman had to be airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a major crash which all but destroyed the Honda she was driving Wednesday night, reports say.

The driver admitted to texting on her cell phone right before the accident, when the Honda she was driving ran off of the northbound lanes of 220 near the A.L. Philpott Highway, over-correcting and striking an embankment before being struck in the roof by another car also traveling north.

No charges are expected for the driver of the second car involved, a white Monte Carlo, but reckless driving charges are pending, state police say.

The driver of the Honda had to be airlifted to Roanoke due to her injuries. The other driver was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries received in the violent crash.
