MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Ferrum College posted a rare double-shutout today with a pair of non-conference softball wins during the team’s Spring Break ’19 trip. The Panthers opened the day with a 3-0 win over Wesley College, then followed with a 5-0 victory over King’s (Pa.) College.
In the opener, Lois Carpenter‘s third-inning sacrifice fly scored Cheyenne Strickland and that was all Ferrum would need. Strickland had a sac fly in the fourth inning to score Bailey Oakes, then Allison McGehee drove a double into center field to push Tori Scott across the plate. Jasmine Agee pitched the entire seven innings to earn the win.
Against King’s, McGeHee had a three-run homer to center field in the sixth inning, while Scott and Oakes each had a pair of base hits. Ashton Lambeth pitched all seven innings with two strikeouts to collect the win and remain perfect on the mound this season at 3-0.
Ferrum game 1: Agee (W, 2-3) 7 inn, 1K
Wesley: Jessica Anderson (L, 0-2) 7 inn, 5 K
Ferrum game 2: Scott 23, double; Oakes 2-2, triple, run, RBI; Lambeth (W, 3-0) 7 inn, 2K
King’s: Kristina Kocher 2-2; Kocher (L, 0-1) 5 inn, 3 K
Coach Gerald Culler’s team will return to Virginia and will face Pfeiffer University Sunday, March 10, at home. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
